Talk with everyone

Image
All, I'm learning the importance of talking with everyone despite preconceptions. A guy in a corvette isn't interested, this gamer guy doesn't want to hear what I have to say, this older guy is too stuck in his ways. All these people said they were interested, so remove your prejudice. Those people who might look the least accepting might be the ones who need it the most. Reach out, love, share, invite! Highlights of the week: Woke up early to go watch sunrise on the beach, it was fire. I love taking pictures. Got a haircut and there was a massage chair there; you better know I took that opportunity. One of my missionary roommates was driving the car with bikes on the back. He hit a dip a little too hard... I'll just let you look at the picture to see what it did to my bike.  Luckily the next day, we gotta use some senior missionary ebikes. Man, I felt like Mary Poppins on one of them. In church, we talked about the First Vision. It was awesome, the Spirit is always i...

We don't want your mix tape tyrone

All, "Y'all smoke weed at your church?" I'm learning that missionaries are really poor. Went to first zone pday which was a blast. We made some kind of temple... it was like the tower of babel lol. Funny how I've found that the things I've been through in life have actually helped me and others. My experiences have given me a unique perspective that allows me to press forward and support others. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. Christmas was not the Christmas I'm used to, felt like another P-day. We hung out at a church building and played some games. Gave my first talk, it was about the scattering of Israel and was aight [all right - for those of us from the older generation]. Got to learn the importance of the scattering & gathering. The title of the email is again me asking if these guys wanted to come to church. I know that God is aware of each of you and knows your challenges. Learn to trust Him and remember there is always a purpose for y...

Yabba yabba but shut up

Image
All, This is how a conversation went: "Would you want go to church?" "I'm Irish." Don't know how that works... The subject line happened when this one guy asked what I was doing in the parking lot, I started to say I'm inviting people to church and He starts saying "Yabba yabba but shut up" in a sorta nice way. Don't know how to put that... I had a lesson in a graveyard. We were walking around by a shopping place and then we found out after the phone call lesson that we were in a graveyard. We went to stop by someone who apparently wanted to learn more about our church. 1st bad decision, this place was dark, no lights. 2nd bad decision, it was 7:30 at night. It was painted white and looked like your stereotypical murder house. 3rd bad decision, we decided to hop the back fence because it looked like it had multiple doors and we were lazy. So now it looked like we were up to something fishy lol. We noticed the generator was running so there ...

All, What church do you go to? I don't think its any of your business. She started recording me walking around, lol. Spread the work for me ma'am  . Monday was good, I beat my companion and one of the other elders in my apartment in pickleball despite not really having played much before. Had a great discussion with Elder Johnson where we came up with the beautiful idea of doing pushups for undignified language again... Coming to realize my desire for serving is changing to a love for the people. As well as, slowly developing a desire to open the door to the celestial kingdom for those I serve. Went to a lesson where this part-member family starting attempting to bash us... being the white greenie I am, I just sat and listened to my companion testify and see the Holy Spirit shut them up. As I struggle with being out here and enjoying the work, I see God expressing His gratitude and love for my service through constant reminders that He is aware of me. Whether it be through some...

Women live longer than men

Howdy everyone, MERRY early CHRISTMAS Had someone ask me if I was single and I said I'm taken by Jesus Christ for the next two years. She proceeded to say she'll wait... I was pretty sick/dead on Wednesday and Thursday, got some sleep so I'm feeling better. I watched an elder try to hop on the end of a treadmill going 12 mph in church shoes. As you imagine, that didn't end well. I believe strongly that Elders do still believe they are invincible as missionaries. Hence the subject line. One thing my comp does that I really like is he makes his miracle videos (literally miracles that we share with other missionaries) like movies. If y'all wanna watch one, lemme know. They're pretty funny. Had first interview with President Hutchison. He is a very smart guy who has a wealth of knowledge - gospel and otherwise. I also ended up at a hospital until 12 am because a friend had an incident. Its over now. We invited two people to get baptized so that's exciting. We ...

You wanna smoke weed on Sunday? No, then I don't want to go to church on Sunday.

"The Lord has plenty of mediocre missionaries, He needs impact missionaries" - Pres. Hutchison First pday was nice, we went bowling with a group of 8 missionaries. Had first zone conference (a large meeting of missionaries to discuss how we can improve). It was  . Elder Fox [Parent Note: I assume this was his cousin, Michael Fox... but I'm not sure] gave a lit talk on becoming an impact missionary. Striving to become an impact missionary. On Sunday, a guy named George showed up out of nowhere so I got to chat with him a little and explain church services. Then someone we are teaching showed up with his son. I really hope they get baptized. The title of the email came from a guy I asked to come to church yesterday. I decided to memorize Joseph Smith's First Vision this week. It was awesome feeling the Spirit whenever I practiced memorizing it. I know that the Prophet Joseph Smith did see Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. I know They gave Joseph the command t...

There is no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone quote

"You don't grow by staying in your comfort zone. You grow by facing your fears and getting uncomfortable" - Danny Dreyer Wow, the latter part of this week has been  uncomfortable.  Its been such a hard transition but I've learned so much and I'm determined to continue to serve this people. I'm already coming to love the people of Viriginia. Sunday: Feels like so long ago when I'm writing this. Sundays are amazing here. One of the things I learned was solidifying my testimony of the Book of Mormon and it's really for our day. The Book of Mormon is the word of God and majority of people who fall away, stop reading the BOM (Book of Mormon) before. Monday: Did service today, bittersweet last day with Sister Anderson (one of my teachers) and some of my district. We also got to serve for dinner. The MTC has been a great experience. Tuesday: Played jeopardy in last class of MTC. Sister Belliston and Sister Anderson are great teachers. People going to serve,...
